China has called for dialogue to resolve the escalating conflict between Iran and the United States, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has vowed that his country will continue resisting what he described as aggression.
The latest diplomatic efforts came as Qatar said it was working with regional and international partners, including China, to facilitate the resumption of talks between Washington and Tehran.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the call for dialogue during a meeting in Beijing with Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.
Wang said military pressure would not provide a solution to the crisis, stressing that negotiations remained the best path towards resolving the conflict.
“Pressure through guns and cannons is not the way out,” he said.
While diplomatic efforts gather momentum, Tehran has adopted a tougher position.
President Pezeshkian said Iran would maintain its resistance with strength until those responsible for what he described as aggression were forced to regret their actions.
His remarks suggest a less conciliatory position from Tehran as the conflict continues.
The crisis is also having repercussions in neighbouring Yemen, where forces loyal to the internationally recognised government have launched counterattacks against Houthi rebels.
Government officials said the military operations are aimed at reclaiming territory held by the Iran-aligned Houthis, with Sanaa, the Yemeni capital, identified as a key objective.
