Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has remained in charge of the club following discussions among senior officials over his future, despite mounting pressure after Sunday’s 3-0 Premier League defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
The 45-year-old returned to the club’s Carrington training ground on Tuesday and oversaw preparations for Saturday’s league encounter against Chelsea.
His continued involvement follows crisis talks involving United chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox on Monday.

The discussions came after United suffered another disappointing defeat, extending their winless run to eight matches across all competitions.
United have recorded just two victories in 12 competitive matches this season and currently occupy 16th position in the Premier League, with seven points from eight fixtures.
The poor start has intensified scrutiny of Carrick, who secured a permanent managerial contract following an impressive interim spell earlier in the year.
Despite speculation that his dismissal was imminent, United have not announced any change in their coaching arrangements.
Reports indicate that the club’s leadership is considering possible replacements, with former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann and Antonio Conte among the names discussed.
Wilcox reportedly favours Howe, while director of recruitment Christopher Vivell is understood to prefer Nagelsmann.
However, no agreement on a replacement has been publicly confirmed.
Speaking after the Bournemouth defeat, Carrick acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his position.
He admitted that the situation was difficult but maintained that he remained committed to acting in Manchester United’s best interests.
The former United midfielder also expressed his continued attachment to the club and the responsibilities associated with managing the first team.

His position has come under additional pressure following a 4-1 Champions League defeat to Italian side Como and public criticism of United’s tactical approach by captain Bruno Fernandes.
Carrick subsequently left Fernandes on the bench against Bournemouth, insisting that the decision was based on football considerations.
Although Carrick has survived the immediate aftermath of Sunday’s defeat, his longer-term future remains uncertain.
Reports suggest United’s leadership could reconsider his position depending on developments in their search for a successor and the team’s performances.
For now, Carrick continues preparing the squad for the Chelsea fixture, with the club seeking to end its prolonged winless run and improve its league position.
