The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general elections available online, allowing registered Nigerians to verify their details ahead of the polls.

The commission announced the development on Monday following public concerns about access to the register during the earlier inspection exercise.

According to INEC, the online publication complements the physical display conducted nationwide between October 9 and 15, 2026, in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026.

The platform allows voters to check their names, photographs and other displayed information within their registered polling units.

FIVE STEPS TO CHECK YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION

Step 1: Visit INEC’s official portal

Open https://display.inecnigeria.org using your phone, tablet or computer.

The website is dedicated to displaying the preliminary register of voters.

Step 2: Sign in to the platform

Follow the instructions provided on the website to sign in and gain access to the register.

Users must complete the required authentication process before proceeding.

Step 3: Select your polling unit

Choose your state, local government area, ward and polling unit.

Voters who know their polling unit identification code can use it to locate the relevant register more quickly.

Step 4: Search for your name

Once the polling unit is selected, examine the displayed names and photographs.

The platform provides an alphabetical navigation option, enabling users to search by the first letter of their surnames.

Carefully confirm that your name, photograph and other available particulars are correctly recorded.

Step 5: Report errors or missing information

If your name is missing or your details are incorrect, follow INEC’s official procedures for submitting claims or objections.

The online inspection platform does not automatically correct inaccurate records.

WHAT THE PORTAL CANNOT DO

INEC’s preliminary register website cannot be used for fresh voter registration, polling unit transfers or replacement of Permanent Voter Cards.

It also does not support nationwide searches for individual voters. Users must select a specific polling unit to access its register.

The commission may temporarily restrict access when users exceed permitted viewing limits.

FINAL REGISTER EXPECTED DECEMBER 15

INEC says it is processing claims and objections arising from the inspection exercise before the scheduled certification and publication of the final voters’ register on December 15, 2026.

Registered voters are encouraged to verify their information and seek clarification through official INEC channels where discrepancies are discovered.

The commission maintains that the exercise is intended to improve transparency, accessibility and public confidence in preparations for the 2027 general elections.
