A teenager who survived years of severe abuse and neglect has reached a major milestone after completing rehabilitation under the care of the Anambra State Government.
The First Lady of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo, announced that Master Chimkamnayo Olisaemeka, who was rescued in 2022 following reports of brutal treatment by his guardians, is now preparing to begin his university education.
Speaking in Awka, Mrs Soludo said Chimkamnayo has remained under her care since his rescue, receiving medical attention, educational support, counselling and mentorship aimed at helping him rebuild his life.

She described his transformation as a powerful example of resilience and hope, noting that what began as a story of pain and neglect has become one of recovery and achievement.
According to her, Chimkamnayo arrived with deep physical and emotional wounds after being rescued from an abusive environment. However, years of support and rehabilitation have enabled him to regain confidence and pursue his academic aspirations.
Mrs Soludo reaffirmed her commitment to supporting his education to any level he chooses to attain, adding that every child deserves the opportunity to overcome adversity and realise their potential.
She also revealed that while Chimkamnayo has expressed a desire to reconnect with his parents, the state government will continue to monitor his welfare and provide necessary support to ensure his safety and well-being.

The First Lady said his journey demonstrates that abuse does not have to define a child’s future, stressing that with love, protection and the right support system, vulnerable children can heal, thrive and achieve their dreams.
She described Chimkamnayo’s story as not merely one of survival, but of triumph, expressing hope that it would inspire other children facing difficult circumstances to believe in a brighter future.
