RSUTH CMD HOSTS NEWLY ELECTED NMA SECRETARY, CALLS FOR SERVICE-DRIVEN LEADERSHIP

The Chief Medical Director of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor, has received the newly elected Secretary General of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Diamond Tamunokoro, following his victory at the association’s national elections held in Kano.

Dr Tamunokoro paid a courtesy visit to the hospital alongside members of the Rivers Progressive in Medicine group and representatives of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), expressing appreciation to Prof. Alikor for his support during the electioneering process.

Speaking during the visit, Dr Tamunokoro described Prof. Alikor as a mentor and leader committed to the growth of younger medical professionals.

“We are proud to identify with the CMD because his support has always been genuine and consistent,” he said. “He has created an environment where people are encouraged to grow professionally, and that reflects purposeful leadership.”

The newly elected NMA Secretary General also acknowledged the role played by stakeholders within the Rivers medical community in his emergence, pledging to uphold the ideals of service and professionalism in office.

In his remarks, Prof. Alikor congratulated Dr Tamunokoro on his electoral victory and urged him to embrace leadership as an opportunity to serve the medical profession and society at large.

“Leadership is fundamentally about service,” Prof. Alikor stated. “You must remain committed to quality representation, professional excellence, and building strong relationships across the medical community.”

He noted that Dr Tamunokoro’s emergence as NMA Secretary General was a significant achievement for Rivers State and a reflection of the growing influence of the state’s medical professionals at the national level.

Prof. Alikor further reaffirmed the commitment of RSUTH to promoting progressive leadership in healthcare and strengthening collaboration with professional medical bodies to improve healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

The visit highlighted the longstanding relationship between RSUTH and the NMA, as well as the institution’s continued role in mentoring and supporting medical professionals across the country.
