The Bauchi State Police Command has intensified security measures across the state ahead of the 2026 Local Government Council elections scheduled for Monday, August 17.
The command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said comprehensive security arrangements had been put in place to ensure the peaceful, credible and hitch-free conduct of the elections across the state’s 20 local government areas.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
Habib said personnel had been strategically deployed across the state to strengthen security and protect lives, property and electoral materials before, during and after the elections.
The command warned political actors and residents against activities capable of disrupting the electoral process, stressing that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
It specifically warned against electoral violence, ballot box snatching, thuggery, vote buying and selling, voter intimidation and other forms of electoral malpractice.
“Perpetrators, sponsors and their accomplices, irrespective of status or affiliation, will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police assured residents that officers deployed for the elections would maintain professionalism, neutrality and respect for human rights while operating in accordance with extant laws.
The command urged eligible voters to come out and exercise their franchise without fear, while advising residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
“The command therefore reassures the good people of Bauchi State of a safe and secure environment to exercise their franchise. Citizens are encouraged to come out en masse to vote,” the statement added.
