Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an early morning attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Mandaragirau, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with the terrorists reportedly assaulting the military location from two fronts.
The Acting Military Information Officer, North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Muhammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.

Goni said the advancing terrorists were detected through the troops’ early warning and surveillance systems, prompting the deployment of a combat team to intercept them along one of their routes of advance.
According to him, the troops engaged the attackers in a heavy exchange of fire and successfully repelled the assault.
He said a second group of terrorists attempted to bypass the ambush team and infiltrate the base but was also met with superior firepower and forced to retreat.
The coordinated response reportedly compelled the insurgents to withdraw in disarray, while troops launched a hot pursuit and conducted operations along their withdrawal routes.
Goni said several terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while troops recovered AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher with bombs and chargers, a camcorder and other combat equipment.
He added that surveillance footage subsequently showed the terrorists dragging the bodies of some of their dead colleagues towards the Timbuktu Triangle.
“Notably, no single casualty on own troop,” Goni said.

The Army described the operation as a demonstration of the troops’ readiness, tactical proficiency and combat effectiveness.
The Theatre Command commended the troops of 162 Amphibious Battalion for their courage and professionalism in repelling the attack.
Goni assured that Operation Hadin Kai would continue to dominate the North-East battlespace, restrict the freedom of action of terrorists and sustain efforts towards restoring lasting peace and security in the region.
