A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has said the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, recognised his value, while accusing former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of betraying him.
Okonkwo made the remarks during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, less than 24 hours after Atiku appointed him as his spokesperson.
The former Nollywood actor said he had publicly ended his relationship with Obi in 2024 after concluding that the former Anambra State governor lacked the decisiveness needed to lead Nigeria.

According to him, he announced his decision publicly to make it clear that he was no longer speaking on Obi’s behalf.
Okonkwo said his role as a public affairs analyst required him to express his views independently, adding that he had already completed his assignment with Obi before distancing himself from the former presidential candidate.
He maintained that his criticism of Obi was based on his assessment of the qualities required to govern the country, insisting that he no longer believed Obi was suitable to serve as President.

“He was the one who betrayed me,” Okonkwo said while responding to questions about the breakdown of their political relationship.
