Arsenal have reportedly enquired about Marseille winger Igor Paixao as the Premier League champions consider further attacking reinforcements before the transfer window closes on September 1.

The London club have already strengthened their squad during the summer following their Premier League title triumph under manager Mikel Arteta last season.

Arsenal have added five players to their squad, including England international Ezri Konsa and former Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, in deals reportedly worth a combined £130 million.

They also signed winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34 million on a five-year contract. Tzolis has made an encouraging start to his Arsenal career, providing two assists in appearances against Manchester City in the Community Shield and Coventry City in the opening Premier League fixture.

Despite the addition of Tzolis, Arsenal are continuing to explore options in attack. A move for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez has reportedly remained among Arteta’s priorities, while the club are also considering further options for the left side of their attack.

According to TeamTalk, Arsenal have now enquired about Paixao, who joined Marseille after previously playing for Feyenoord.

The Brazilian winger scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in 43 appearances for Marseille last season, attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.

Leeds United previously attempted to sign Paixao from Feyenoord and have reportedly renewed their interest this summer. Aston Villa are also said to have made enquiries, while Sunderland have reportedly had two bids rejected by Marseille after agreeing personal terms with the player.

Marseille are understood to be reluctant to sell the 26-year-old, although financial difficulties at the French club could make a transfer possible before the deadline.

Paixao could reportedly be available for a fee of around £35 million, potentially putting Arsenal in competition with other Premier League clubs for his signature.

MARTINELLI FUTURE

Arsenal’s pursuit of another left winger has also intensified speculation surrounding Gabriel Martinelli’s future at the club.

The Brazilian winger has been linked with a number of clubs during the transfer window, including a potential move to Galatasaray, but a transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal is now reportedly considered the more likely outcome.

Martinelli was left out of Arsenal’s matchday squads for the Community Shield victory over Manchester City and the Premier League opening-day win against Coventry City.

Arsenal could reportedly receive an initial £50 million for Martinelli, with additional payments potentially taking the overall value of the deal higher.

Should the transfer go through, Martinelli would become the second left-sided winger to leave Arsenal this summer after Leandro Trossard’s move to Besiktas.

With the transfer deadline approaching, Arsenal’s enquiry for Paixao could therefore become more significant if Martinelli completes his expected departure.
