The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has declared its readiness to reclaim political power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the conduct of its primaries for governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly positions.
The primaries, held on Thursday in Uyo, produced consensus candidates for the governorship, senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly elections.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Akwa Ibom, Barr. Igwat-Osagyefo Umoren, described the exercise as a major step in strengthening internal democracy and repositioning the party for victory in 2027.
He said the primaries represented more than a candidate selection process, noting that they reflected the party’s commitment to justice, fairness, inclusion, and democratic principles.
“The primaries are not merely a process of selecting candidates; they are a demonstration of the values we stand for as a party founded on justice, fairness, inclusion, and the will of the people,” Umoren said.
He urged delegates, aspirants, and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and uphold the party’s rules throughout the process.
While commending aspirants for their commitment and sacrifices, Umoren assured members that the PDP remained committed to a transparent and credible process.
“Beyond individual ambitions lies a greater mission, which is the progress of our party and the development of our dear nation,” he added.
Also speaking, the PDP National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said the APC was afraid of the PDP’s growing strength in Akwa Ibom.
He accused the ruling party of failing Nigerians and challenged defectors to defend the APC’s performance both nationally and in the state.
“We are waiting for them to come and campaign for the APC they demonised. Let them come and tell us if the country is safer under APC; if life is easier under APC,” Ememobong said.
He maintained that Akwa Ibom remained a PDP stronghold and expressed confidence that the party would regain its mandate in 2027.
Ememobong further alleged that the APC had imposed candidates on the people and assured party faithful that the PDP would maintain its zoning arrangement.
In separate goodwill messages, the Forum of PDP Chapter Chairmen and the Forum of PDP Ward Chairmen pledged continued support for the party, insisting that the PDP remained firmly rooted at the grassroots.

Chairman of the electoral committee for Akwa Ibom, Dr Christopher Udoaka, said the exercise complied with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and PDP regulations.
He congratulated the candidates on their emergence.
Responding on behalf of the candidates, the PDP governorship candidate, Engr. Emem Coffie, thanked party members for the confidence reposed in them and promised to work toward securing victory for the party in the 2027 elections.
