Akwa Ibom State further strengthened its reputation as a premier golfing and tourism destination as the 2026 Ibom Open Golf Tournament concluded in Uyo with the presentation of 38 trophies and prizes to outstanding golfers from various categories.
The week-long tournament, which attracted more than 350 golfers from across Nigeria and beyond, climaxed with a colourful Night of Champions held at the Nwaniba Hall of Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo, where participants were treated to Akwa Ibom’s renowned hospitality.
Host golfer, Princewill Albert Akpan, emerged the overall winner of the prestigious tournament.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Captain of the Ibom Golf and Country Club, Chief Isua Archibong, described the tournament as historic and expressed appreciation to golfers, sponsors, and partners for contributing to its success.
He commended Governor Umo Eno for his commitment to positioning Akwa Ibom as a leading tourism destination through strategic investments in infrastructure and sports tourism, including the maintenance of the Ibom Golf Course and the development of a new nine-hole golf course at the ARISE Palm Resort.
Representing the state government, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Anieti Udofia, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to promoting tourism through sports and pledged continued collaboration with the club to enhance Akwa Ibom’s profile on the global golfing map.
Former Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada (Rtd), who attended the event, praised the organisers for delivering a world-class tournament and described Akwa Ibom as a true home for golfers.

Also speaking, former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Umana Okon Umana, applauded the state government for providing world-class golfing facilities and pledged continued support for the growth of the sport.
Sponsors including Ship Africa, Ibom Air, First Bank, and others commended the organisers for successfully showcasing Akwa Ibom to the golfing community and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting future editions.
The tournament attracted top public officials, business leaders, security chiefs, and captains of major golf clubs across the country, many of whom described the Ibom Open 2026 as one of Africa’s leading golf events and pledged to increase participation in future editions.
