The Resident Representative of the President of the ECOWAS Commission and Head of Mission to Guinea-Bissau, Ambassador Dr Ngozi Ukaeje, has commended personnel of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau, ESSMGB, for their professionalism and commitment to duty.
Ambassador Ukaeje described the personnel as “diplomatic military professionals” when the Force Commander, Brigadier General Danjuma Ribah Dantani, led senior officers of the mission on a visit to her office in Bissau.
The visit was to formally introduce newly inducted senior officers, including the Deputy Force Commander, contingent commanders and staff officers of the Force Headquarters.
The ECOWAS envoy expressed satisfaction with the professionalism of the contingents and their ability to commence duties immediately after assuming their responsibilities.
She urged the contingent commanders to tailor their in-house training towards supporting the National Defence Forces of Guinea-Bissau ahead of the forthcoming referendum and subsequent general elections.
Ambassador Ukaeje also urged the officers to remain focused and prepared for the training to achieve the objectives of the ECOWAS mission.
Earlier, the Force Commander, Brigadier General Dantani, said the visit was in line with the traditions of the Force Headquarters and would provide an opportunity for the senior officers to engage directly with the ECOWAS Head of Mission.
He also briefed the envoy on administrative and operational matters concerning the contingents and appreciated her leadership and continued support for the mission.
