The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Essien Umoh, has inspected selected Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in Uyo, expressing concern over poor examination conditions in some facilities.

The inspection, carried out during the ongoing 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), was aimed at ensuring a smooth and credible conduct of the exercise.

During the visit, the Commissioner monitored the biometric verification process and general conduct of the examination across the centres.

He commended JAMB for improvements in its technological processes and lauded the level of organisation observed at one of the centres.

However, Umoh frowned at the condition of another centre, describing it as unconducive for candidates. He cited inadequate space, poor ventilation, substandard seating arrangements, and faulty computer systems as major concerns.

The Commissioner stressed that such conditions could negatively impact candidates’ performance and called for immediate improvements.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the state government, led by Governor Umo Eno, to providing a conducive environment for learning and examinations.

Umoh added that the proposed youth centres across the 31 local government areas of the state would, in the future, serve as standard CBT centres for examinations such as UTME.

He noted that the monitoring exercise was necessary to identify and address technical and administrative challenges that could hinder candidates’ performance.

The Commissioner also encouraged candidates to remain calm and focused throughout the examination period, wishing them success.

Centres visited during the exercise included Brilliant Partners and Gestric Computer Centres.
