The Federal Road Safety Corps (Federal Road Safety Corps) has secured the remand of a traffic offender, Suleiman Abubakar, who was sentenced to seven days at the Nasarawa Correctional Centre following his arraignment before a Magistrate Court on Thursday, 16 April 2026.
Abubakar was arrested along the Nasarawa–Keffi road at about 3:00 p.m. while driving a Toyota Previa with registration number KMC 566CY. He was initially stopped for overloading but was later found to be driving without a valid driver’s licence.
According to FRSC officials, the suspect also attempted to bribe operatives of the RS4.33 Nasarawa Unit Command, an offer that was rejected. The situation reportedly escalated when he attempted to evade arrest and forcefully took away the patrol team leader.
The officer was, however, able to resist, and the situation was brought under control after the vehicle moved about three kilometres from the point of interception.

The suspect was subsequently arrested, while the vehicle was impounded. He was handed over to the Nigeria Police in Nasarawa for further prosecution.
At the court hearing, Abubakar pleaded guilty to five charges brought against him. The presiding magistrate ordered his remand at the correctional facility for seven days, with judgement adjourned to 23 April 2026.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the judiciary for the ruling, saying the decision reflects ongoing efforts to enforce discipline on Nigerian roads and protect FRSC personnel from attacks. He added that the agency remains committed to ensuring offenders are brought to justice.

The case highlights continued enforcement actions by the FRSC against traffic violations and assaults on its operatives across the country.
