The Nursing Services Directorate, Ministry of Health, Akwa Ibom State, has announced the commencement of a statewide verification exercise for all nurses and midwives in line with a directive from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
According to a notice issued on June 8, 2026, and signed by the Director of Nursing Services, Nr. Philomena Ini Ikie, the exercise is aimed at verifying the validity of professional licences and certificates of all registered nurses across the state.

The verification, which covers nurses in the federal, state, and local government health institutions, as well as those in the private sector, unemployed, and retired practitioners, will be conducted across the three senatorial districts of Akwa Ibom State.
In Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, the exercise will hold on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the General Hospital, Ikot Ekpene. Eket Senatorial District is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Immanuel General Hospital, Eket, while Uyo Senatorial District will hold on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Nurses’ House/NANNM Secretariat along the Itu-Calabar Highway, Uyo.
The Directorate directed all concerned nurses to appear at their respective centres with valid documentation, noting that Heads of Nursing Services and matrons may compile and present credentials on behalf of their staff to ensure an orderly and efficient process.

It emphasised that the exercise is compulsory and urged full compliance, describing it as critical to strengthening professionalism, accountability, and standards within the healthcare system in the state.
