The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the constitution of a committee to review the implementation of the new minimum wage at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO), as part of efforts to address lingering salary concerns and stabilize the institution.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan.

The decision follows a series of engagements between the state government, the polytechnic’s management, and labour unions over the harmonization of salary structures and payment schedules for staff.

The review committee will be chaired by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Olaolu Akindolire. Other members include Dr. Wunmi Ilawole, Mr. Olaleye Phillips, Mr. Asonja Oluwole Festus, and Mr. Abiodun Ogunduboye.

According to the government, the committee has been mandated to work closely with the institution’s management, labour representatives, and relevant state agencies to audit payroll records, identify discrepancies in the implementation of the new wage structure, and propose a sustainable payment framework.

In a related development, Governor Aiyedatiwa has approved the payment of three months’ outstanding salary arrears owed to workers of the institution, a move seen as a significant step toward resolving ongoing labour issues.

The Commissioner for Education, Igbekele Ajibefun, said the clearance of arrears was critical to restoring stability and boosting morale among both academic and non-academic staff.

“This intervention is necessary to rebuild trust within the workforce and ensure the smooth operation of the institution,” he said.

Meanwhile, the governor has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Simeon Olorunwa Adegun as the substantive Rector of RUGIPO. Dr. Adegun had been serving in an acting capacity since October 2024.

Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing workers’ welfare and maintaining the effective functioning of state-owned tertiary institutions.
