The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with separate incidents involving alleged culpable homicide, an attack on a police facility and violent disturbances at Gujungu Market in Taura Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Dutse on Monday.
Adam said the arrests were part of the command’s ongoing efforts to maintain law and order across the state.
On the Gujungu Market unrest, the police spokesperson said two suspects were arrested on July 26, 2026, following violence that erupted after a disagreement between a soldier and a 25-year-old man identified as Biniya Alhaji Ibrahim from Miga Local Government Area.
According to Adam, the disagreement escalated when the soldier allegedly stabbed Biniya with a knife, inflicting injuries that later proved fatal.
He said the incident triggered further violence, during which some hoodlums allegedly attacked security personnel, fired bows and arrows at officers and set two thatched shops on fire.
Adam said sustained intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in the attack.
The suspects were identified as Muhammed Muhammed, 22, of Gagarawa Local Government Area, and Faridu Mohammed.
In a related development, the command said six additional suspects were arrested on August 2 over the alleged attack on two vigilante members during the unrest.
The police said the victims were attacked with sticks and cutlasses, resulting in fatal injuries to one of them, while the second victim is receiving treatment at a medical facility.
The six suspects were identified as Isiyaku Abdulkarim, 55; Yahaya Habu, 31; Ibrahim Abubakar, 30; Audu Mamman Janare, 30; Ya’u Duga, 65; and Mamman Musa, 20. They are from Taura, Gagarawa, Kaugama and Jahun Local Government Areas.
The command also said six cows believed to have been abandoned during the unrest were recovered.
Meanwhile, the police reported another suspected case of culpable homicide in Dabigel Village, Ringim Local Government Area.
Adam said the command received a report at about 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 3, that a quarrel between two 20-year-old men had escalated into violence.
He said one of the men allegedly stabbed the other in the chest with a sharp metal object locally known as a “Danbuda.”
The victim was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
Police operatives subsequently arrested 20-year-old Saminu Ibrahim of Gidan Gona Village, Ringim Local Government Area, in connection with the incident.
According to the PPRO, the suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation and will be arraigned after the completion of the investigation.
The police command also disclosed that a stakeholders’ engagement involving Miyetti Allah, community leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, security agencies, youth representatives and other relevant groups was ongoing.
Adam said the engagement was aimed at addressing the root causes of the Gujungu Market violence, strengthening community cooperation and preventing a recurrence.
The Commissioner of Police commended officers and other security stakeholders for their response to the disturbances and assured residents that the command would continue to protect lives and property.
He urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing investigations and improve public safety.
