Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Paul Bassey, has congratulated players and officials of Ibom Angels FC following their qualification for the quarter-finals of the President’s Federation Cup.
Bassey made an unscheduled visit to the team’s training session at Uyo Township Stadium on Friday, where he praised the players for their recent victory over Bayelsa Queens FC in the Round of 16.
Ibom Angels secured qualification after Mirian Okocha scored a late equaliser in the 83rd minute to cancel out Bayelsa Queens’ opener before the Uyo-based side prevailed in a penalty shootout.

Speaking on behalf of Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, Bassey commended the team’s performances and assured them of the government’s continued support and commitment to their welfare.
He, however, urged the players to remain focused and avoid complacency as they pursue the Federation Cup title.
The commissioner was accompanied by the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Samuel Umoh, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Rosemary Ubia. Cash donations and gifts were presented to the team during the visit.

Ibom Angels, who have previously reached two consecutive Federation Cup finals, will face Heartland Queens FC in the quarter-finals, with the date and venue yet to be announced.
