The Confederation of African Athletics has officially opened media accreditation for the African Senior Athletics Championships Accra 2026, marking the beginning of preparations for one of the continent’s most anticipated sporting events.
Scheduled to take place from May 12 to 17, 2026 in Accra, Ghana, the championship is expected to bring together elite athletes from across Africa in a showcase of speed, strength, and endurance at the highest level of competition.
This was contained in a press release issued by the Chairman, Committee of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Maxwell Kumoye, on April 23, 2026.

The statement noted that accredited journalists will be granted extensive access throughout the event, including entry into competition venues, dedicated media workspaces equipped with internet connectivity, and access to official press conferences.
Media professionals will also be authorised to carry out photography and broadcast coverage, alongside receiving official event materials to support reporting and production.
Applicants are required to submit valid identification, proof of media affiliation, a recent passport photograph, and emergency contact details. Organisers emphasised that verification of active professional media engagement remains a key requirement, as part of efforts to ensure credible and coordinated coverage.
Officials say the accreditation process is designed to streamline reporting operations while enhancing global visibility for the championships, which are expected to attract significant continental and international attention.

With preparations intensifying, the accreditation announcement signals a major milestone in the countdown to the games, setting the stage for what is expected to be a high-profile celebration of African athletics.
Media professionals across the continent have been urged to apply early to secure access to the event.
