Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, on Saturday announced the death of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Uzuegbu, who passed away after a battle with cancer.
Governor Otti disclosed the development in Umuahia during a political event at the International Conference Centre, where he also emerged as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor described the late senior police officer as a diligent and committed public servant who served Nigeria with professionalism and integrity, noting that his contributions to policing would be remembered with respect.

He expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul and asking God to grant his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
A minute’s silence was observed in honour of the late AIG during the event.
The death of AIG Uzuegbu has drawn reactions from members of the police community and other stakeholders, who described him as a respected officer during his years of service in the Nigeria Police Force.
