The Bauchi Youth Parliament has condemned allegations of terrorism financing levelled against the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

EFCC recently arraigned the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, alongside three others over alleged involvement in terrorism financing.

Reacting to the development, the Youth Parliament, in a statement on Monday, signed by its Speaker, Mohammad Idris, expressed grave concern over what it described as a deliberate attempt to malign the Governor.

“The attempt to link Governor Bala Mohammed to the financing of terrorism is false, reckless, devoid of any factual or legal foundation,” the statement read in part.

According to the parliament, such allegations amount to a dangerous misuse of sensitive national security narratives, aimed at intimidating political opposition, silencing dissenting voices, a development it warned could threaten democratic stability and public trust.

Idris stated that members of the Bauchi Youth Parliament, representing youths from the state’s constituencies, emirates, 20 local government areas, and diverse communities, found the allegation deeply disturbing.

He noted that Bauchi State, under the leadership of Governor Mohammed, has enjoyed relative peace, social stability as a result of deliberate investments in security coordination, community engagement, and proactive response mechanisms.

“His administration has consistently worked with security agencies, traditional institutions, and local stakeholders to prevent conflict, protect lives, and sustain harmony across the state,” he said.

The Speaker further warned that associating a sitting Governor, who bears constitutional responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of millions of citizens, with terrorism financing was not only defamatory, but capable of endangering public peace.

He added that such allegations could instil fear among residents, weaken confidence in governance, and undermine the collective efforts of security agencies operating in the state.

Beyond security concerns, Idris noted that the allegations could also have adverse economic implications for Bauchi State.

He therefore called on relevant authorities, the media, civil society organisations, religious leaders, and the people of Bauchi State to reject misinformation, uphold due process, protect the integrity of democratic governance in Nigeria.
