U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Congress to introduce legislation aimed at supporting the country’s film and television industry, saying federal incentives could help bring more entertainment production back to the United States.

Trump made the call in a post on his Truth Social platform after meeting with actor Jon Voight, whom he described as his “Hollywood Ambassador”. He said Voight and other industry figures were concerned about the decline of film production in Hollywood.

“What we watch on the Silver Screen should be made in what was once the Movie and Motion Picture Capital of the World,” Trump wrote, urging lawmakers to act on the proposal.

The president said Hollywood had experienced a significant decline, claiming that film and television productions had moved to Canada and other countries due to more attractive production incentives.

Trump said his administration was considering federal tax incentives to encourage studios to produce more films and television programmes in the United States. He added that discussions were being arranged with lawmakers from both the Republican and Democratic parties.

“I am going to suggest that Republicans and Democrats get together, and immediately craft legislation to save the Movie, Television, and Entertainment Business in America,” Trump said.

He said the proposed incentives would create entertainment jobs and generate economic benefits for the country.

The proposal comes as the U.S. entertainment industry continues to face challenges, including rising production costs, competition from international filming locations and changes in consumer viewing habits.

Trump previously worked in television as the host of the reality programme “The Apprentice,” which aired for 14 seasons before he entered politics.

Congress has not yet announced any specific legislative action following Trump’s request.
