Nigeria – British heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua has been discharged from a Lagos hospital, following a fatal road accident which claimed the lives of two close members of his team.
Nigerian authorities confirmed on Wednesday that the two time former world heavyweight champion was discharged, after doctors declared him medically stable. Joshua had been under observation at Lagoon Hospital in Lagos where he was treated for minor injuries sustained in the crash.
The accident occurred on Monday morning along the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway, one of Nigeria’s busiest highways when the vehicle conveying Joshua and his team collided with a parked truck.

Shortly after his discharge, Joshua accompanied his mother to a funeral home in Lagos to pay final respects to the deceased as arrangements were made for the repatriation of their remains.
Confirming the development, Lagos State Commissioner for Information Gbenga Omotoso said Joshua was cleared to continue his recovery at home, described the visit to the funeral home as a deeply emotional moment for the boxer and his family.
Just hours before the crash, Joshua and Ayodele had shared videos on social media, showing them playing table tennis – a moment that has since drawn emotional reactions from fans, worldwide.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn paid tribute to the deceased, describing them as loyal, energetic and irreplaceable members of Joshua’s inner circle. He called for prayers for their families and for Joshua as he navigates the tragedy.
Joshua whose parents are of Nigerian origin were in the country following a recent high profile boxing bout in the United States, where he defeated YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul in a widely streamed fight.
