The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed unwholesome, substandard products valued at over N5bn in Nasarawa State.
The items seized from Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger, and Plateau States were destroyed at the Angwan Rere dumpsite in Lafia.
Speaking at the event, NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the fake products were confiscated during the agency’s routine surveillance and enforcement exercises.
The DG was represented by the agency’s North-Central Zonal Director, Kenneth Azikiwe.
“Some of these products were hoarded internationally, concealed, deliberately revalidated after their expiration dates, maliciously positioned and displayed for sale by some unscrupulous merchants”
She listed the destroyed items to include:
• Fake and expired drugs
• Falsified medical devices
• Unsafe cosmetics
• Fake detergents
• Expired chemicals
Adeyeye added that some damaged, expired items voluntarily surrendered by “well meaning, God-fearing businessmen and women” were also included in the destruction exercise.

The DG assured Nigerians that the agency would continue to ensure that only safe, high-quality products are allowed into the markets.
She appealed to members of the public to report the activities of individuals selling fake, substandard products that pose risks to human health.
