The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, before a Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of unlawfully accessing a telephone conversation involving the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.

El-Rufai, who also served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is facing an amended five-count charge filed by the security agency.

At the commencement of proceedings on Thursday, counsel to the DSS informed the court that the charges had been expanded from three to five counts, indicating further details uncovered during investigations.

Details of the additional counts were not immediately disclosed in open court, but the prosecution signalled its readiness to proceed with the case.

The development marks a significant legal challenge for the former governor, as the court is expected to hear arguments and determine the next steps in the trial.

The case has been adjourned to a later date.
