The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to unveil its National Campaign Council and present its financial statement during the party’s third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Monday, October 26, in Abuja.

The party will also present Certificates of Return to candidates contesting the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections in 2027.

NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, disclosed the arrangements in a statement issued on Saturday.

According to the statement, the meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja.

Director said a major highlight would be the presentation of the party’s statement of account by its National Treasurer, describing the planned disclosure as part of the NDC’s commitment to financial transparency and accountability.

He challenged other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to demonstrate similar openness in managing their finances.

“For the NDC, it is no longer politics as usual,” he declared.

The spokesperson also addressed questions surrounding the party’s financial resources, claiming that economic hardship had affected the ability of many candidates to pay for nomination-related forms.

According to him, approximately 80 per cent of the party’s candidates could not afford the Expression of Interest forms, prompting the NDC to issue the forms free of charge.

The figure represents the party’s claim and has not been independently verified.

The director explained that the proposed National Campaign Council would coordinate campaign activities across different electoral contests, including the presidency, National Assembly, governorship and state legislatures.

The unveiling is expected to clarify the party’s campaign leadership and organisational arrangements ahead of the elections.

The announcement follows an earlier postponement of the council’s inauguration, initially scheduled for October 20.

The NDC attributed the rescheduling to the overseas engagement and tight schedule of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The party had previously disclosed that Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would participate in nominating key campaign officials, including directors responsible for operations, communications and finance.

It also outlined arrangements for managing campaign funds through designated officers working with the National Treasurer.

The October 26 meeting is expected to provide further details of those arrangements as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.
