Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over Nigeria’s economic difficulties and security challenges, accusing the government of failing to adequately address the hardships confronting citizens.

Atiku, identified as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), expressed concern over the rising cost of food, healthcare, housing and transportation, saying many households were struggling to meet their basic needs.

He argued that the economic situation had placed considerable pressure on families, particularly those already facing financial difficulties.

The former vice-president also raised concerns about insecurity, citing kidnapping and violent attacks as threats to the safety and well-being of Nigerians.

According to him, families should not have to contend with economic hardship while simultaneously worrying about their personal security.

“No family should have to face hunger and insecurity at the same time,” Atiku said.

He accused the Tinubu administration of contributing to the rising cost of living and presented his proposed approach to economic management and national security as an alternative.

“Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves,” he stated.

Atiku urged Nigerians to participate actively in the democratic process, particularly by obtaining and safeguarding their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

He described electoral participation as an important means through which citizens could express their political preferences and hold elected officials accountable.

The former vice-president also appealed for unity among Nigerians, irrespective of age or background, saying the country needed leadership capable of addressing economic pressures and improving public safety.

His remarks form part of the continuing political debate over the Tinubu administration’s economic policies and security record ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku’s criticisms and proposed remedies represent his political position, while the effectiveness of any alternative policies would depend on their design and implementation.
