At least three people have been killed, two others reportedly injured, and 114 cattle rustled in separate attacks across Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

The incidents, which occurred between October 6 and 13, were disclosed in separate statements issued on Wednesday by the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) and the Mwaghavul Youth Movement (MYM).

According to the BYM, suspected armed attackers rustled 114 cattle in Wereng community, Riyom LGA, between October 6 and 12.

The association said a 42-year-old resident, David Danjuma, was also killed during the period.

In a separate incident, 48-year-old James Joro Dung was reportedly killed in Tafan community, Barkin Ladi LGA, on October 13, while two of his cattle were also killed.

The BYM National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, condemned the incidents and appealed to security agencies to investigate the killings, recover the stolen livestock and strengthen protection for vulnerable communities.

The association expressed concern over the security of farmers as the harvest season approaches, urging authorities to intensify surveillance along routes frequently affected by attacks.

It also welcomed the establishment of Department of State Services (DSS) camps in vulnerable communities but called for adequate funding, equipment and wider operational coverage.

Meanwhile, the Mwaghavul Youth Movement reported that 65-year-old Dauda Shamaki was killed during an attack on Nchiya community in Mangu LGA on Monday night.

The group also reported that a security operative sustained gunshot injuries around Aloghom community earlier the same day.

In a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Tubwot Joël Sunday, on behalf of its President, Jonathan Kyesmang Yusuf, the movement linked the violence to tensions arising from alleged destruction of farmlands by cattle.

According to the group, armed men subsequently entered Nchiya community and attacked two residents stationed at a local vigilance point.

Shamaki was reportedly killed during the incident, while the second resident escaped.

The movement further alleged that two individuals involved in the attack wore uniforms resembling those used by security personnel.

However, it acknowledged that there was no concrete evidence establishing the involvement of security operatives in the attack.

The group called for an independent investigation to determine the identities of the attackers and establish whether the uniforms were genuine or used to impersonate security personnel.

It also urged the Plateau State Government and relevant security agencies to investigate the reported destruction of farmlands, killings and livestock theft.

Both organisations appealed to residents to remain peaceful, cooperate with security agencies and avoid retaliatory attacks.

They further urged community leaders to encourage the timely reporting of suspicious activities and discourage the circulation of unverified information capable of worsening tensions.

The allegations and casualty figures were provided by the two community organisations and had not been independently confirmed by security authorities at the time of this report.
