A 34-year-old man, Ejike Nnam, has been sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment by an Enugu North Magistrate Court for conspiracy and robbery involving an iPhone XR valued at ₦240,000.

The Enugu State Police Command disclosed the conviction in a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe.

According to the police, Nnam and an accomplice allegedly robbed a woman of her mobile phone along Bisalla Road, Enugu, at approximately 8 p.m. on October 8, 2026.

The command said Nnam was arrested and arraigned before the Magistrate Court while his alleged accomplice remained at large.

Nnam pleaded guilty to the charges and was subsequently convicted.

The court imposed a three-year prison sentence for conspiracy and five years for robbery, ordering that both sentences run concurrently.

The ruling means Nnam will serve five years in prison rather than eight, as the sentences will run simultaneously.

In a separate development, the command announced the arrest and prosecution of a 29-year-old man, Richard Chukwuma, over the alleged theft of a bottle of Jameson Green Whisky valued at ₦30,150 from a supermarket in Enugu.

Police said Chukwuma was arrested at approximately 6:50 p.m. on October 7, 2026.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to previously stealing 15 bottles of the same brand of whisky from the supermarket.

He was arraigned before a court on October 9 and remanded at the Enugu Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.

The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the magistrate who handled Nnam’s case for the prompt conclusion of the proceedings.

Giwa called for the timely determination of criminal cases across the state, maintaining that effective prosecution and judicial efficiency could strengthen public confidence in the justice system.

The police command reaffirmed its commitment to investigating criminal complaints, prosecuting suspects and protecting lives and property across Enugu State.
