President Bola Tinubu has announced the operationalisation of new Nigerian Army formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun states as part of efforts to strengthen the military’s response to security threats.
Tinubu said the new formations would bring troops closer to vulnerable communities and improve the speed of response when security incidents occur.
“This week, the Nigerian Army operationalised new formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun. Our troops are now closer to vulnerable communities in these areas, strengthening our ability to respond swiftly and decisively when our people are threatened,” the President said.
He also said the Federal Government was accelerating the construction of new military barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi states, while a similar project in Osun had been completed.
According to Tinubu, the infrastructure projects are intended to improve the working and living conditions of military personnel and their families.
“We are also fast-tracking the construction of new barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi, with Osun already completed. As we demand more from our men and women in uniform, we must do more to support them and their families,” he said.

The President also said a recent pay increase for members of the Armed Forces was having a positive impact on personnel and their families.
Tinubu emphasised the sacrifices made by military personnel and their families, saying the government had a responsibility to provide the resources and support required for them to carry out their duties.
“Every deployment is a sacrifice made by a family too,” he said.
The President said his responsibility as Commander-in-Chief was to ensure that troops had the resources and institutional support required to protect the country.
The announcement comes as security agencies continue operations against banditry, kidnapping and attacks on communities in different parts of Nigeria.
According to the President, the newly operationalised formations are expected to expand the Army’s presence in the affected states and strengthen its capacity to respond to emerging security threats.
