Former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Aniekan Uko, has resigned from his position as Honorary Special Adviser to Governor Umo Eno on Legislative Affairs, a move that is already stirring political speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Uko, who currently represents Ibesikpo Asutan in the State Assembly, formally announced his resignation in a letter dated April 20, 2025, addressed to the governor.

In the letter, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the administration, describing his tenure as both insightful and rewarding.

“Please accept this formal notice of my resignation; as I embark on a new chapter to pursue future opportunities that align with my goals,” he wrote.

The former Speaker cited “evolving circumstances” and a desire to focus on his personal aspirations as reasons for stepping down, while maintaining a tone of loyalty to the current administration.

“I remain hopeful that I will continue to support your administration in other capacities,” Uko added, extending his best wishes for the continued success of the state government.

Although Uko did not explicitly state his next political move, his resignation has fueled growing speculation within political circles in Akwa Ibom State. Observers suggest he may be positioning himself to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Uyo Federal Constituency in the 2027 elections.

Uko, a seasoned legislator and influential figure in state politics, served as Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly before taking up his advisory role in Governor Eno’s administration. His departure is expected to reshape political alignments within the state as the next election cycle gradually comes into focus.
