The Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN, in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, has arrived in Israel as part of an international advocacy campaign over attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria.

Dachomo arrived in Israel on Friday, October 2, saying the visit was aimed at drawing greater international attention to insecurity affecting communities in Plateau State and other parts of Nigeria.

The cleric has said he hopes to engage Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and international Christian leaders during the visit as part of what he described as his first international Christian advocacy tour.

Dachomo has repeatedly characterised attacks on Christian communities in parts of Nigeria as persecution and genocide, while calling for stronger international intervention and protection for vulnerable communities.

His use of the term “genocide” remains part of a wider debate over how violence in Nigeria’s Middle Belt should be characterised, with insecurity in the region involving a complex mix of terrorism, communal conflict, criminal violence, land disputes and attacks that have affected both Christian and Muslim communities.

Dachomo said he intends to present the experiences of affected communities in Plateau and the wider Middle Belt during his engagements in Israel.

“By the mercy of God, I will be addressing the world in Israel,” he said.

He said Christian leaders and prayer groups from different countries were expected to participate in meetings and prayer activities during the visit.

The Plateau cleric also said his advocacy would not be limited to Christian victims, adding that he would pray for Muslims and other Nigerians affected by violence and insecurity.

Dachomo has previously criticised the Nigerian government over what he considers an inadequate response to attacks on Christian communities and has questioned why Nigerian officials speak prominently about international conflicts while, in his view, giving insufficient attention to violence at home.

He has also publicly expressed appreciation to Netanyahu and United States President Donald Trump for comments drawing attention to the situation facing Christians in Nigeria.

The cleric said his visit would provide an opportunity to seek greater international awareness of the experiences of communities affected by violence and to call for peace across Nigeria.

Dachomo also appealed for prayers for the country and an end to attacks affecting communities irrespective of their religious or ethnic backgrounds.

His visit comes amid continuing debate over insecurity in Plateau State and other parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where repeated attacks have displaced communities and intensified demands for stronger protection of civilians.
