The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it secured 1,370 convictions from 1,889 cases filed in court during the first half of 2026.

EFCC Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, disclosed the figures during the commissioning of the commission’s Awka Zonal Directorate Complex, established to serve Anambra and Imo states.

Olukoyede also gave an account of the commission’s wider enforcement and asset-recovery activities under his leadership.

According to figures presented by the EFCC, the commission recovered ₦1,233,612,040,411.11 between October 1, 2023 and June 30, 2026.

Foreign-currency recoveries during the period included $684,478,457.32, £373,905.78 and €9,343,803.66, alongside amounts recovered in other currencies.

Giving broader prosecution figures covering October 2023 to July 2026, Olukoyede said the commission received 49,673 petitions, investigated 39,615 cases and filed 14,476 cases in court.

A total of 10,872 convictions were secured during the period, representing a conviction-to-filing ratio of 75.1 per cent.

Olukoyede said the figures reflected the commission’s emphasis on investigation, prosecution, asset recovery and prevention of economic and financial crimes.

Speaking on the establishment of the Awka Zonal Directorate, he said the expansion was intended to strengthen the EFCC’s presence in Anambra and Imo, two states with significant commercial and industrial activities.

He said the commission’s mandate extended beyond arrests and prosecution to preventing financial crimes before public resources or private funds were lost.

The new directorate is expected to work with government institutions, businesses, financial institutions, professional bodies, educational institutions, markets, civil society organisations and community leaders in both states.

Olukoyede also called on Nigerians to provide credible information about suspected economic and financial crimes, while cautioning against using whistleblowing mechanisms to pursue personal disputes.

He said information supplied to the commission should be factual and aimed at protecting the public interest.

At the event, the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening anti-corruption institutions and improving their capacity to investigate and prosecute financial crimes.

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo pledged the state government’s cooperation with the commission, saying the presence of the zonal office would facilitate investigations within the region.

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma also welcomed the expansion of the EFCC’s operations and called for greater institutional presence in Imo State.
