The Gombe State Government has assured 1,502 newly deployed National Youth Service Corps members of adequate security and welfare throughout their service year in the state.

The assurance was given by the Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Abdullahi Waziri, who represented Governor Muhammadu Yahaya at the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch C Stream I corps members at the temporary NYSC orientation camp in Amada, Akko Local Government Area.

The newly deployed corps members comprise 803 males and 699 females.

Waziri urged them to regard Gombe as their home and contribute meaningfully to the development of their host communities during the service year.

He said the state government remained committed to protecting corps members and providing an environment where they could carry out their national service without fear of harassment or intimidation.

“Gombe is a peaceful state. They are in a good place where they can deliver their service diligently without fear of harassment or intimidation,” Waziri said.

He added that security arrangements would continue throughout their stay in the state, while expressing hope that subsequent orientation exercises would be held at Gombe’s permanent NYSC orientation camp.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Chinwe Nwachuku, also urged the corps members to obey the law, respect their host communities and use their service year to make meaningful contributions to the state.

Nwachuku encouraged them to undertake community development initiatives capable of leaving a positive impact in the areas where they are posted.

She commended the Gombe State Government for its continued support for the NYSC scheme, including the provision of facilities at the orientation camp and additional funding for the feeding of corps members.

The coordinator also praised residents of Gombe for their hospitality and support for corps members serving across the state.
