The General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Auwalu Mahmuda, has warned troops serving in newly established formations in Oyo and Osun states against indiscipline and unprofessional conduct.
Mahmuda gave the warning during an inspection visit to the newly established Headquarters 7 Brigade in Oyo State and 137 Battalion in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Division, Lt. Col. Jonah Danjuma, the visit was aimed at assessing the formations and ensuring their smooth take-off.
Mahmuda urged personnel to remain disciplined, proactive and professional in carrying out their responsibilities, stressing that conduct capable of damaging the reputation of the Nigerian Army would not be tolerated.
He said the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, expected personnel to maintain high professional standards while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.
The GOC also emphasised the importance of maintaining cordial relations with residents of host communities, noting that effective civil-military cooperation remained important to security operations.

He said the establishment of the new formations formed part of efforts by the Nigerian Army to strengthen its operational presence and response to emerging security challenges.
Mahmuda further urged the troops to reciprocate efforts by the Army leadership to improve their welfare by remaining committed to duty and preventing criminal elements from operating freely within their areas of responsibility.
During the visit to Ile-Ife, the GOC was received by the Commanding Officer of 137 Battalion, Lt. Col. Christopher Okwujiako.
Community leaders led by the Sooko Laukun of Ife, Sooko Adegboyega Ogunwusi, welcomed the establishment of the battalion and expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Army.

The Army said Mahmuda’s visit formed part of a broader assessment of the newly created formations to ensure that personnel settle into their locations and effectively commence operations.
