The naira strengthened against the United States dollar on Wednesday, trading at N1,375/$ in the parallel market and N1,328/$ at the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM).
The local currency gained N8 at the parallel market from N1,383/$ recorded on Tuesday.
At the official market, data from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed that the indicative exchange rate improved by N3, from N1,331/$ on Tuesday to N1,328/$.
The movements narrowed the gap between the parallel and official market rates to N47 per dollar, compared with N52 recorded a day earlier.

Foreign exchange trading activity also increased significantly, with interbank turnover at the NFEM rising by 181.5 per cent to $279.2 million, from $99.2 million on Tuesday.
Nigeria’s external reserves have also maintained an upward trend, reaching $54.674 billion as of September 17.
The latest appreciation continues recent movements in the foreign exchange market as the naira records gains across both the official and parallel market segments.
