Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has directed members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Campaign Council to intensify grassroots mobilisation across local government areas, wards and polling units ahead of the general elections.

Zulum gave the directive on Sunday while inaugurating the council at the Multipurpose Hall of the Government House in Maiduguri.

The governor, who chairs the council, said the party must earn renewed public confidence through effective leadership, service delivery and sustained engagement rather than relying on previous electoral victories.

He urged members to take responsibility for campaign activities in their respective communities, engage residents and address concerns raised by voters.

Zulum also called for greater participation by women, young people and party elders, while directing council members to submit regular reports on their mobilisation activities.

He emphasised the importance of peaceful and lawful campaigns, including educating supporters about electoral procedures.

Addressing disagreements arising from the APC primaries, the governor appealed to unsuccessful aspirants to remain committed to the party and support its candidates.

He equally urged successful aspirants to reconcile with aggrieved members, warning that activities considered harmful to the party’s interests could attract disciplinary measures under its constitution.

Zulum further called for increased electoral support for the APC in Borno, noting that the state is the home state of Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

He identified the Federal College of Education in Gwoza, the Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship in Bama, and the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Azare among projects the party intends to highlight during its campaign.

The governor also expressed support for APC governorship candidate Mustapha Gubio, whom he described as capable of sustaining his administration’s development programmes.

Earlier, Borno APC Chairman Bello Ayuba said campaign council members were selected based on their political experience, organisational capacity and commitment to the party.

Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, urged stakeholders to strengthen mobilisation at polling-unit, ward and local-government levels.

He also called for reconciliation among party members to address internal disagreements.

Other party leaders, including Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Tahir Monguno, House of Representatives member Muktari Betara, APC Deputy National Chairman (North) Ali Bukar Dalori and former governor Maina Maaji Lawan, emphasised party unity.

The council has Zulum as chairman, Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur as vice-chairman and Bello Ayuba as secretary.
