Lagos State lawmaker and Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot has apologised to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over his conduct during the last All Progressives Congress primary election, as he seeks to mend relations with the party’s leadership in Lagos.
Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, made the apology during a meeting with Gbajabiamila and other APC chieftains.
In a video shared on social media, the lawmaker was seen kneeling and prostrating before Gbajabiamila as he appealed for forgiveness and reconciliation.
Elliot said he had no justification for his actions and expressed regret over what he described as mistakes made during the party’s internal political process.
“I’m sorry. I have no excuse; I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry,” Elliot said, while appealing to Gbajabiamila not to be angry with him.
He also invoked the traditional practice of prostrating before an elder as a sign of respect and remorse.
Gbajabiamila subsequently asked the lawmaker to stand up.
The latest apology follows an earlier public expression of regret by Elliot during an appearance on TVC’s Your View, where he acknowledged that he might have offended Gbajabiamila during his political engagements.
Elliot described Gbajabiamila as his political mentor and said any disagreement between them was not intentional.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to party unity and the interests of his constituents, stressing that he had learnt much of what he knew about politics from the former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The renewed reconciliation effort comes against the background of political tensions within the Lagos chapter of the APC, particularly disagreements surrounding the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Gbajabiamila had previously disclosed that he faced difficulties at the Presidency over intelligence reports alleging that Elliot was involved in political moves connected to the Assembly speakership crisis.
Elliot denied the allegations at the time.
The Assembly leadership dispute was part of wider disagreements within the Lagos APC and eventually attracted the intervention of senior party figures as efforts were made to restore stability within the party.
Elliot’s latest gesture appears aimed at drawing a line under the disagreement and restoring his relationship with the party’s leadership as preparations intensify for the next political cycle.
The lawmaker had previously urged forgiveness, saying, “To err is human, to forgive is divine,” while asking his political mentor to pardon him if he had offended him in any way.
