Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned on Friday that economic, political, and military pressure imposed on his country by the United States and Israel has escalated to a critical and dangerous juncture, threatening broader regional and global stability.
Speaking in India ahead of an upcoming BRICS summit, Pezeshkian emphasised that the modern geopolitical climate is marked by “unprecedented complexity” exacerbated by the strategic deployment of economic sanctions and military action.
“Iran has been subjected to heavy sanctions in recent years; this pressure has reached a critical and dangerous stage in recent months following the military aggression by the United States and Israel,” Pezeshkian said.
The escalation follows Joint U.S. and Israeli military strikes against Iran launched in late February, which further strained an Iranian economy already hampered by decades of international embargoes.
In response, Tehran retaliated by restricting commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz,z a vital maritime bottleneck for global oil exports,s triggering a sharp surge in international energy prices.
Pezeshkian cautioned that targeted pressure against national supply chains carries global consequences.
“When a country is subjected to political and military pressure on its trade, energy, infrastructure and financial system, the repercussions extend beyond its borders,” he noted.
The address comes during Pezeshkian’s first official state visit to India, where he is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi later on Friday.
