The United States flag has been unfurled outside the Pentagon in Virginia as the country marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The flag display forms part of commemorative activities honouring the victims of the attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people and caused widespread destruction in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
The Pentagon was among the sites targeted during the attacks, when American Airlines Flight 77 was hijacked and crashed into the US military headquarters.
Memorial events are being held across the United States as families, officials and communities remember those who lost their lives and reflect on the lasting impact of the attacks.
