Troops of the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled multiple terrorist attacks, rescued an abducted district head and recovered arms and equipment during coordinated operations across Katsina and Zamfara States.
The operations, conducted on July 2, 2026, targeted terrorist activities in several communities within the Joint Operations Area, reinforcing ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the North-West.
In Katsina State, troops of Sector 2 on a fighting patrol engaged terrorists between Amara and Chakau Junction in Danmusa Local Government Area after the criminals opened fire on sighting the advancing soldiers. The troops overpowered the attackers, forcing them to flee and abandon one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles.

In a separate operation around Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area, troops, working alongside other security agencies and local vigilantes, responded to a terrorist attack and neutralised one of the assailants during a gun battle.
The troops also rescued the District Head of Farin Hawa, Mr Mubarak Sharin, who was abducted by armed terrorists during an attack on the community in Malumfashi Local Government Area. The rescue followed a swift pursuit by security operatives, who engaged the fleeing terrorists, neutralised one of them and disrupted the kidnappers’ escape.
In neighbouring Zamfara State, troops successfully repelled an attack on their location at Dauran in Bukkuyum Local Government Area. Reinforced by additional fighting patrols, the soldiers forced the terrorists to retreat, recovering one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, a bandolier and a hydration pack.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the courage and professionalism of its personnel, as well as the support of other security agencies and local vigilantes involved in the operations.

The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups while strengthening collaboration with local communities to enhance security and protect lives and property across the North-West.
