Gaza authorities have appealed to the international community to intensify efforts to protect hundreds of thousands of Palestinians displaced by the conflict as the winter season approaches.
Ismail al-Thawabta, director-general of Gaza’s Government Media Office, called for an immediate humanitarian response to the worsening conditions faced by displaced families living in temporary shelters and among the ruins of destroyed homes.
Al-Thawabta urged the international community to coordinate its efforts and provide urgent assistance to displaced Palestinians, warning that the coming cold and rainy season could further endanger those already living in precarious conditions.
He said a comprehensive plan was needed to address the needs of displaced families before the onset of winter, according to a statement issued by his office.
Many Palestinians in Gaza remain in displacement camps and damaged areas, where inadequate shelter and limited access to essential supplies have compounded the humanitarian crisis. Recent reports have also highlighted concerns over worsening health and sanitation conditions as the rainy season approaches.
Al-Thawabta warned that rain and cold weather could pose a serious threat to people living in makeshift shelters, particularly those with limited protection from the elements.
He identified orphaned children, elderly people and persons with disabilities among those facing the greatest risks.
The appeal comes amid continued Israeli military operations in Gaza despite a ceasefire framework, with recent strikes reported to have killed civilians, including children.
Gaza authorities said urgent international action was necessary to ensure displaced families have adequate shelter and protection before the weather deteriorates.
They called for greater humanitarian assistance and coordinated measures to prevent further loss of life among vulnerable Palestinians during the winter months.
