The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested several suspects in connection with alleged theft, shopbreaking and possession of suspected stolen property across the state.
The arrests followed a series of intelligence-led operations conducted by police operatives in different parts of Jigawa, resulting in the recovery of a tricycle, two motorcycles and 11 Android mobile phones.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Lawal Shi’isu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
He said operatives from the Maigatari and Malam Madori Divisions arrested three suspects allegedly found with stolen Royal and Boxer motorcycles.
The suspects were identified as 30-year-old Abubakar Ya’u and 28-year-old Aminu Ya’u, both from Dantanoma Quarters in Gumel Local Government Area, and 25-year-old Abdullahi Bala of Garbagar Village in Guri Local Government Area.
In a separate operation, police arrested 31-year-old Anas Nuhu of Jobe Village in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.
Nuhu was allegedly found in possession of a tricycle with registration number MDB 478 QE and Union number GWL 1842, which the police said was suspected to have been stolen from a motor park in Tofa Local Government Area.
The police said Nuhu confessed during interrogation to stealing the tricycle, adding that the case had already been taken to court.
The command also disclosed that investigations into the other motorcycle theft cases had been concluded and the suspects arraigned for prosecution.
In another development, operatives arrested 18-year-old Mamman Adamu of Tutiyari Village, Kirikasamma Local Government Area, following a report of a shop burglary in Birniwa.
According to the police, Adamu was allegedly linked to the theft of 11 Android mobile phones, all of which were recovered.
The suspect reportedly confessed to the offence during interrogation, with the police saying he would be prosecuted after the completion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, commended the officers involved in the operations for their vigilance, professionalism and dedication.
Murtala reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urged residents to continue providing security agencies with timely and credible information to assist in preventing and tackling criminal activities.
