At least 37 people have been killed after a Russian drone attack struck a warehouse in Ukraine’s Bucha district, near the capital Kyiv, causing massive explosions and a fire that spread to nearby areas.
Kyiv region authorities said the attack hit a warehouse in the town of Myla, located in the western suburbs of Kyiv, where explosive materials were stored. The strike triggered a large blast and caused damage to surrounding residential buildings.
The governor of Kyiv region, Tymur Tkachenko, said rescue operations were ongoing at the scene, adding that dozens of people were injured in the incident.
Officials said at least 42 people sustained injuries, while more than 380 residents were evacuated from the affected area following the explosion.
Ukrainian authorities reported that more than 50 residential buildings were damaged, with the fire also affecting homes and a restaurant near the warehouse.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the warehouse was hit and said the explosion that followed would be investigated. He questioned why explosive materials were stored close to residential communities.
“There are regulations in place – ammunition cannot be stored near homes or other residential areas,” Zelenskyy said.
Ukrainian prosecutors have opened an investigation into possible negligence over the storage of explosive materials at the facility, including whether the operators had the required permits and approvals.
The attack comes amid continued long-range strikes between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides increasing attacks on infrastructure targets in recent months.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched at least two missiles and 267 drones against Ukrainian territory between Friday night and early Saturday.
Authorities also reported additional casualties from Russian strikes in Kyiv, including the death of a two-year-old child and a 14-year-old girl.
Meanwhile, Russian officials said Ukrainian drone attacks in Russia’s Belgorod region and the Crimean city of Sevastopol killed several people and injured others.
The Russia-Ukraine war has continued to see intensified attacks on infrastructure, including warehouses, energy facilities and transport networks, leading to rising civilian casualties.
