Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah has called on the club to rediscover the aggressive, high-intensity style of play that defined the Jürgen Klopp era following the team’s disappointing 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa.

The loss further dented Liverpool’s hopes of securing a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League and increased pressure on manager Arne Slot amid growing concerns over the club’s form.

Reacting to the result in a strongly-worded social media message, Salah expressed disappointment over the team’s struggles and insisted supporters deserved better performances.

“Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve,” Salah said.

The Egyptian forward urged the club to return to the attacking football philosophy that brought success to Anfield during previous seasons.

“I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies,” he stated.

Salah also appeared to question the club’s current direction under Slot, stressing that Liverpool’s football identity should remain intact regardless of managerial changes.

“That is the football I know how to play, and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable, and everyone who joins this club should adapt to it,” he added.

The 33-year-old, who is expected to leave Liverpool at the end of the season after nine years at the club, reflected on his time at Anfield, recalling the club’s transformation into one of Europe’s elite sides.

“I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions,” he said.

Salah also maintained that Liverpool’s standards should go beyond simply qualifying for European competitions.

“Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. As I’ve always said, qualifying for next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum, and I will do everything I can to make that happen,” he stated.

Liverpool’s defeat at Villa Park marked the club’s 19th loss of the season, with pressure mounting on Slot as the campaign enters its closing stages and attention shifts towards the summer transfer window.
