Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has congratulated Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed Aliyu on her appointment as the first female Editor-in-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.
Hadiza, who hails from Borno State, becomes the first woman to head the editorial team of the national news agency since its establishment more than 40 years ago.
She is a graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri and has spent over three decades serving the News Agency of Nigeria.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum described Hadiza as a disciplined, committed and top-tier career editor whose elevation reflects her years of dedication to journalism.
The Governor said he received her appointment with excitement, noting that she would be heading an editorial team of more than 500 editors and reporters across NAN’s offices nationwide and its 18 districts.
Zulum urged the new Editor-in-Chief to sustain the editorial standards that have established NAN as a credible source of news.
He particularly tasked her with strengthening the agency’s efforts to counter false information, misinformation, disinformation and hate speech, especially as the country approaches the campaign period.
The Governor wished Hadiza a successful tenure and expressed confidence in her ability to provide effective leadership for the agency.
