Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has responded to Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, following the singer’s appeal for a free and fair governorship election in Osun State.

Davido, who is leading the youth mobilisation campaign for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid, had urged an unnamed politician from Imo State to allow the August 15 governorship election to be conducted peacefully without interference.

Although the singer did not mention any individual by name, Governor Uzodinma, who chairs the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council for the election, reacted through his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu.

Uzodinma said Davido should direct his appeal to the people of Osun State rather than to him, stressing that the electorate would determine the outcome of the election through their votes.

The governor maintained that he has consistently advocated for a peaceful, free and credible election and reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to democratic principles.

He also claimed that many Osun voters were dissatisfied with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration and were prepared to support the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the forthcoming poll.

Uzodinma further advised Davido to focus on supporting his uncle after the election rather than making emotional appeals, suggesting that the governor could be out of office if defeated at the polls.

The exchange comes amid heightened political tension ahead of the August 15 governorship election, following the freezing of some Osun State Government accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and allegations by Governor Adeleke’s campaign of intimidation and unlawful arrest of some of its supporters.

The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, with Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party against the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
