The African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, saying he does not respond to his subordinate.

Amaechi made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday while reacting to Wike’s claim that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar chose him as his running mate because of financial considerations.

Earlier, Wike had stated during a media chat with selected journalists that Amaechi no longer possesses significant political influence in Rivers State.

Responding to the criticism, Amaechi said, “I don’t respond to my subordinate. Wike never hired me. By the time I finish mourning and go into campaign, anybody that insults me, I will insult him back.”

The former Rivers State governor was initially a presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) but lost the party’s presidential ticket to Atiku Abubakar during the primaries.

Following the exercise, Atiku selected Amaechi as his running mate ahead of the 2027 presidential election, a move later confirmed by the party.

The exchange marks the latest chapter in the long-standing political rivalry between Amaechi and Wike, both of whom previously served as governors of Rivers State and remain influential figures in the state’s political landscape.
