The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced plans for its presidential candidate, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, to campaign across all 36 states of Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Phrank Shaibu, disclosed this during an interview on ARISE News on Sunday, October 25, dismissing suggestions that Atiku’s campaign would focus primarily on northern Nigeria.

Shaibu said the campaign timetable would be released shortly, assuring voters that no state would be excluded from the former vice-president’s nationwide engagements.

According to him, the campaign will extend beyond conventional political rallies in state capitals to include town hall meetings, community consultations and visits to local government areas and villages.

He explained that the approach was designed to enable Atiku to interact directly with Nigerians, understand their concerns and discuss the challenges confronting communities across the country.

Shaibu argued that economic hardship was not restricted to any particular region, stressing that rising living costs and financial difficulties affected Nigerians regardless of their geographical location.

He maintained that Atiku’s political appeal extended beyond northern Nigeria and expressed confidence in the candidate’s prospects across the federation.

The campaign spokesperson further insisted that the ADC would prioritise direct voter engagement rather than depend exclusively on large political gatherings.

His remarks come amid contrasting campaign arrangements by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), whose proposed nationwide campaign timetable identifies 12 states where President Bola Tinubu is expected to attend rallies personally.

Tinubu had earlier announced that he would limit his personal involvement in campaign activities to allow him to concentrate on his responsibilities as President.

Speaking during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja on October 14, Tinubu emphasised the need to balance electioneering with governance, citing Nigeria’s economic obligations and the importance of attracting investment.

Under the APC’s proposed timetable, the President’s campaign appearances were scheduled to begin in Kaduna on October 24, 2026, and conclude in Lagos on January 9, 2027.

However, the ruling party’s broader campaign programme covers all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with other party officials expected to represent Tinubu at additional rallies.

The differing arrangements highlight the campaign strategies being adopted by the two major presidential contenders as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
