The Ogun State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the killing of renowned broadcaster and retired Ogun State Television (OGTV) staff member, Mrs Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard at her residence in Agodo community, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.

The 67-year-old media veteran and her security guard were reportedly murdered by yet-to-be-identified assailants in the early hours of Sunday at her home along the Abeokuta–Siun–Sagamu Expressway.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the case was reported at the Owode-Egba Police Division by a resident of Iyana Agodo Village who raised an alarm over suspicious activities around the deceased’s residence.

According to him, police detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene, where preliminary investigations revealed signs of forced entry and disturbance within the premises.

A subsequent search led to the discovery of the security guard’s corpse inside the security post, while the body of Mrs Oyesiku was later found within her apartment.

The police also observed that the deceased’s vehicle was missing from the residence, raising suspicions that the attackers may have fled with it after the attack.

Babaseyi disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, has ordered an extensive investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killings and ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.

“An intensive investigation is ongoing to unravel the facts, track down and apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous act, while ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice,” the statement said.

The police added that surveillance and intelligence-driven operations have been intensified across strategic locations as part of efforts to track the suspects and recover any stolen property.

The command also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, Ogun State Television, members of the media community and other affected persons.

CP Ojajuni assured residents that no effort would be spared in bringing the perpetrators to justice and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could assist ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Ogun State Chapter, Mrs Oluwaseun Boye, described the killing of the retired senior programme producer as shocking, tragic and deeply disturbing.

Mrs Oyesiku was widely respected in media circles for her contributions to broadcasting and public communication during her years of service with OGTV.

Her death has continued to generate reactions from colleagues, friends and professional bodies, many of whom have called for a thorough investigation and swift justice.
